Think Again!

TCRA-Event_ftrd_0320

If you’re a transmission rebuilder and think TCRA is some distant cousin, think again! The Torque Converter Rebuilders Association, TCRA, makes a broader impact on the transmission industry than the name implies. By creating interaction, open communication, and comradery between the converter suppliers and transmission rebuilders, TCRA is the bridge that connects the two industries just like the torque converter connects and transfers power from the engine to the transmission.

We encourage all transmission rebuilders to attend the 2020 TCRA Seminar. It will take place in Fort Walton Beach on April 17th and 18th, and just like the ATRA Powertrain Expo, it’s packed with the latest technical information and lots of fun.

When a transmission shop selects a converter supplier who is a TCRA Member, the transmission rebuilder can have the highest level of confidence. This is because the torque converter builder has direct access to resources unavailable to suppliers outside the association. TCRA members know it’s essential to match the right converter to the application. And, they know there is only one way to get the converter out, and that is to first move the transmission out of the way.

It’s clear that there are many things in common between the converter and transmission, i.e., the influence the converter has on transmission performance, and vice versa, as well as the many external forces impacting both. Accurately communicating the details of the application and any symptoms, modifications, and diagnostics is vital to everyone involved in getting the vehicle back on the road for the owner.

The 2020 TCRA Seminar will take place on the Florida panhandle in Fort Walton Beach on April 17th and 18th, 2020. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Resort beachfront property, located less than 10 miles from the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS), which is located on Elgin AFB. Ground transportation options to the hotel include Car Rental, Shuttles, or Ride Shares, with an average cost of $20.00.

Arriving at Elgin AFB is always a treat. You’ll see a variety of military aircraft being prepped for daily maneuvers over the local area. The roar of the fighter jets will kickstart your heart.

The need for speed continues into the tour scheduled for Friday morning, where Suncoast will host TCRA at their shop. Similar to the fighter jets dominating the skies with power, Suncoast works with some of the nation’s fastest diesel trucks, getting the power to the pavement. Suncoast engineers strive to produce the highest quality transmission and torque converters for work trucks, race trucks, and gas applications.

There will be a short Member Meeting upon return to the resort, followed by the annual evening reception, hosted by Sonnax. Afterward, there will be some time to go for a walk on the beach or hang out with industry colleagues and friends at one of the local pubs.

This year’s event is an excellent opportunity to mix a little business with pleasure and bring your family out for a few extra days of sightseeing and relaxation on the Emerald Coast. Soak up the Florida sunshine while you also build business contacts and learn a few new things from some of the best industry professionals.

Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. Saturday. A continental breakfast will be provided to get the day started. The classroom session begins at 8:00 a.m., and this year’s guest speakers include Charlie Stark of Weller Truck, Bob Warnke of Sonnax, John Parmenter of Precision International, Joe Rivera of ProTorque, and Blake Carter of Suncoast.

Because there are external forces at work that influence each and both of our respective industries, we’ll also address the business end of our industry. You’ll hear about the latest industry trends and get some timely tips from GEARS Managing Editor, Rodger Bland, and TD Publisher, Bobby Mace.
