A LEGACY OF INNOVATION: CIRCLE D SPECIALTIES
This year’s seminar will feature Circle D Specialties, a company that has become synonymous with cutting-edge torque converter technology and high-performance solutions. With a rich history that dates back to the 1970s, Circle D Specialties has played a pivotal role in shaping the industry as we know it today.
Founded by Dennis and Patricia Sehorn in Houston, Texas, the company started as Circle D Automotive, a general repair shop that later specialized in transmissions. Contrary to popular belief, the “Circle D” name was inspired by Dennis’s involvement in circle track racing, not overdrive transmissions! Over time, the company evolved, transitioning into Circle D Transmissions and eventually Circle D Specialties, as it expanded into OE-style torque converter production in 1984.
In the mid-1990s, Chris Sehorn, Dennis’s son, joined the company and helped drive it forward. By 2004, Chris and his wife Ann took over the business, ushering in a new era of growth and specialization. Under Chris’s leadership, Circle D Specialties pivoted towards performance-oriented torque converters, acquiring CNC machines in 2006 to manufacture their own components. This commitment to innovation paid off, cementing their reputation as a leader in the LS and Coyote Performance Markets.
With continued expansion, Circle D moved into a 21,000 square-foot facility in 2014 and later upgraded to a 58,000 square-foot purpose-built facility in 2021. Their latest milestone came in November 2024, with the acquisition of Reid Racing, further enhancing their capabilities. Today, with over 40 employees, 14 CNC machines, and custom-built production equipment, Circle D remains at the forefront of high-performance torque converter technology.
