ATRA Powertrain Expo 2025 Wrap-Up: A Week of Learning, Networking, and Industry Growth

San Antonio, Texas, was once again the center of the transmission industry as professionals from across the globe gathered September 3–7 for the ATRA Powertrain Expo. The annual event brought together shop owners, rebuilders, suppliers, and educators for four packed days of training, networking, and celebration of the industry’s best. From start to finish, the 2025 Expo delivered on its promise of being the premier event for automatic transmission professionals. Attendees were treated to a blend of worldclass technical training, insightful management sessions, and a variety of opportunities to connect with colleagues and industry leaders.

Training at Its Best

Technical training sessions once again set the standard, with leading experts delivering in-depth instruction on the latest units, tools, and techniques. From hands-on diagnostics to updated service procedures, the classes provided immediate take-home value for rebuilders and technicians working on the newest transmissions hitting the market.

On the management side, attendees had the chance to sharpen their leadership and business skills through sessions focused on shop culture, customer service, profitability, and employee engagement. These sessions reminded shop owners that success isn’t just built in the bay—it’s also built in the office.

The ATRA Luncheon & Keynote

One of the Expo’s signature events, the ATRA Luncheon, was highlighted by a keynote address from industry veteran Kit Lindsay. With his trademark mix of humor, honesty, and hard-won wisdom, Lindsay inspired attendees with stories drawn from his decades in the business. His message reinforced the values of resilience, innovation, and keeping the human element at the heart of our work.

WIT Friday Night Reception

Another standout moment of the week came Friday evening at the Whatever It Takes (WIT) Transmission Parts Reception. Hosted by CEO Rodney Peters, the event featured an open bar, great food, and a lively atmosphere that gave attendees a chance to relax and connect outside the classroom. The WIT reception has become a can’t-miss tradition at Expo, offering the perfect blend of networking and camaraderie.

Networking and More

Of course, no ATRA Powertrain Expo would be complete without the networking. From the exhibit hall floor to informal meetups in the hotel lobby, the opportunities to connect were endless. Suppliers and manufacturers showcased new products and services, giving shop owners fresh solutions to bring back home. Conversations sparked in San Antonio are sure to lead to new partnerships and innovations across the industry.

Looking Ahead to 2026

By all accounts, the 2025 ATRA Powertrain Expo was a resounding success. But the momentum doesn’t stop here. Plans are already in motion for next year’s event, which will return to the same great venue in San Antonio, September 2–6, 2026. If this year’s Expo is any indication, attendees can expect even more training, more networking, and more opportunities to grow—professionally and personally.

For now, the transmission industry leaves San Antonio re-energized, equipped with new tools and knowledge, and looking forward to another exciting year ahead. The countdown to Powertrain Expo 2026 has already begun.
