Dear GFX Family,

It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved father, George Feldenkreis, on Thursday, February 20, 2025. He was 89.

His journey in life was one of resilience, vision, and unwavering dedication to both his family and community. Born in Havana in 1935, my father immigrated to the United States in 1961 with a dream of building a better future for himself and his family. Arriving in Miami with limited resources, my father wasted no time building a new life. He had an innate entrepreneurial spirit and an uncanny ability to identify emerging markets and business opportunities.

Founding Carfel

My father’s foresight into the burgeoning field of automatic transmissions laid the foundation for Carfel’s success. By recognizing this technology’s potential, he positioned the company to meet the growing demand for quality automatic transmission parts, the first in the industry to do so. His commitment to innovation and excellence has been the cornerstone of our operations, influencing our approach to product development and customer service.

Under his guidance, Carfel expanded its offerings and rebranded as GFX. Today, his legacy is evident in our dedication to quality and customer satisfaction.

A Visionary Entrepreneur

Beyond the automotive industry, my father was a trailblazer in fashion and apparel. In 1967, he founded Supreme International, which would later acquire Perry Ellis International. Both companies would grow to be global leaders in fashion. His leadership and business acumen helped build these internationally recognized brands, shaping the modern apparel industry in the process.

A Life of Philanthropy, Community, and Family

Beyond his business achievements, my father was a devoted family man and a passionate philanthropist.

He served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Miami for over 20 years and was an active board member of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation for over four decades. His generosity extended to numerous charitable organizations, reflecting his deep commitment to his community.

To our family, he was a mentor and an inspiration, but most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the values he instilled in us: integrity, perseverance, and generosity.

We invite you to join us in honoring his memory. Thank you for helping make the work he was so passionate about possible.

With heartfelt gratitude,

– Fanny Hanono
