Litens Announces New Line of Aftermarket Hybrid Tensioner Kits

Dublin, Ohio – August 5, 2024 – Litens Aftermarket N.A, offering the most complete portfolio of aftermarket belt drive products, has introduced a new line of hybrid tensioners, the Alpha™ Hybrid Tensioner and Hybrid V-Tensioner, which are now available to customers as Litens new hybrid tensioner kits. Specifically designed for mild hybrid applications, each kit will include the new tensioner along with its corresponding belt.

Currently, Litens’ new hybrid tensioners are only available as hybrid kits, due to the essential pairing of the belt with the tensioner. These kits are designed for mild hybrid applications, often referred to as “P0” hybrids. In these systems, the alternator also acts as a generator, connecting the electric motor and internal combustion engine with a specially sized and designed belt in the front-end accessory drive, which ensures the correct tensioner geometry for optimal performance. This setup allows the front-end accessory drive to perform various functions such as starting the vehicle, adding power and smoothing torque.

Additionally, the strategic pairing of the belt and hybrid tensioner is not only convenient, but a necessity. In hybrid systems, the belt not only transmits power to the accessories, it also adds power to the engine. Worn or incorrect belts can lead to failure of the hybrid system and damage to engine components. This means retaining the correct belt length and construction is crucial to a functioning belt drive system.

Hybrid vehicles typically include extra accessory components like electric power steering and regenerative braking systems, which increase the load on the serpentine belt. Consequently, it’s essential to provide the correct replacement parts for technicians and customers. A properly matched tensioner and belt, along with a well-maintained belt drive system, can meet the unique demands of a hybrid vehicle’s accessory drive, ensuring efficient power distribution and optimal vehicle performance.
